IE Park creates 125m-long indoor roller coaster for a Romanian mall

Italian ride manufacturer IE Park srl has completed a challenging 25m x 17m indoor roller coaster project for a Bucharest mall.

The ride, designed and built for Bucharest-based Britta operator, has been installed at the AFI Cotroceni Mall in Bucharest.

The ride was incorporated into the mall's Zorky’s Planet attraction, which has a ceiling height of 5m. It is the first indoor, custom-built roller coaster to be installed in the Balkans.

IE Park technical team worked with structural analysts and civil engineers from the AFI Cotroceni Mall and Britta to develop a special track design and 12m columns.

The coaster track is suspended from branch like support sections that come off the main vertical support columns. The total weight of the structure is 32,650kg and all elements have been designed to meet the European Standard.

The overall footprint of the coaster is 25m x 17m with a track length of 125m. The maximum track fluctuation is 5.8m, while the maximum speed reached is 35km/h.

The ride train is a custom-made, space-themed train, Zorky’s Space Train, featuring LED lighting effects. The 16-seater train also has multi-position lap bars for each row of passengers.

Built off the mezzanine floor on which Zorky’s Planet is situated, the route of the coaster and the positions of its support columns required the relocation of five existing amusement rides/attractions – bumper cars, trampolines, a convoy, mini jets and tea cup – along with a selection of video games and skill games.
